new beginnings

Every time I go someplace, I come home renewed. I have a new appreciation for my life, my friends, my family. I feel motivated to get the body I want, to eat better, to do things that make me feel alive. I'm hoping it sticks with me longer this time. After a week or two I usually resort back to my old eating habits and start longing for another vacation. I'm going to try to hold on to this feeling of a new beginning and I'm hoping that those of you around me will be encouraging. Ask me how it's going? Am I still living life the way I want? Have I fallen into old routines?

I'm hoping that this also sticks with my kids. After seeing some kids on the side of the road where we stopped to get bananas (in Cuba), Olivia said it "made her heart feel good" to give them something. It made MY heart feel good to hear her say that. Adam was THE quietest I have ever seen him while we traveled the countryside. He's usually a complainer about being in a vehicle and says he's bored. He just took it all in and when we were almost back to the resort he says "I'm glad this is not my everyday".

We have a good life here in Canada and I think we take it for granted sometimes. No. I KNOW we take it for granted a lot of the times! I think it was appropriate that the road trip we took in Cuba was on November 11th!

And on that note......I'm off for a walk around my little town I call home! It's great to be back! :)

  1. So great that you took the time to show the kids what Cuba is really like...life is not a resort for the people there! These are memories they will hold dear for a long time to come:)

  3. This is great Erin. Nothing like a good dose of another person's reality to put things into perspective. We are very very blessed.

  4. You constantly inspire me, Erin. Life has so many good things to teach us but often we (I) are so slow to learn them. Thanks for reminding me of how MUCH I have for which to be thankful.

  5. We took our kids to Southeast Asia when they were young (ages 6-18) and it was quite the eye-opener for those California beach kids. Definitely made them think about and appreciate how fortunate they are, and what charmed lives they live. That was awesome that you took your kids to Cuba. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
